Join us on three day two night tour of total immersion into the history and culture of one of Newfoundland’s largest resettled communities. Located on an island within the Bay of Exploits, the village of Exploits was once a thriving fishing village, with shipyards, churches and schools.
During the 1960s, Exploits was all but abandoned, with only one couple remaining as permanent residents. This tour will take you along the old village paths and through the harbour by boat with an experienced local guide . Absorb its rich natural history and culture while each day savoring traditional Newfoundland meals prepared by Momma Jo!
Our province was founded on the salt cod industry so you’ll get to experience this process starting with actually catching cod to splitting, curing and drying the fish on flakes. You can sample cod in its many forms, pan fried, deep fried, cheeks and tongues , fish and brewis or fisherman’s brewis.
Try a dockside lobster dinner and steamed blue mussels, that you pick yourselves as an appetizer, And of course Momma Jo has more in store for you with her homemade jams and breads, toutons and beans, and many delectable deserts from her kitchen. The choices are many!
We have you covered if seafood is not for you. The choices are many!
