'Jewel in the Crown' Trip to Exploits Island

Our time on Exploits Island with the Langdons was the capstone experience of our trip. We were welcomed into their home, ate at their table, laughed at their stories, listened to their island’s history and kayaked around their beautiful part of the world.

Newfoundlanders are reknowned for their hospitality and Adventures Newfoundland does this very, very well. Paul & Joanne managed our ‘custom-built’ excursion with expertise, good humor and aplomb. We will enjoy with a smile the memories for a lifetime.

Newfoundland kayaking at its best!!

What a beautiful experience – thank you to Paul and Joanne for creating the 7 day excursion. Along with a friend, we paddled with 2 others and 2 guides. We were able to experience the waters of Exploits Bay (within Notre Dame Bay) , the islands within and the variations of the coastline on our trip. Campsites were comfortable with great view points. Our guides, Peter and Alison, provided stories of the area, knowledge of the rock formations and plants along our route. An opportunity arose to collect mussels from the rocks which were steamed in sea water the next day for lunch – no restaurant could match this effort. We had excellent weather and great companions – what else can I say.

Amazing Newfoundland experience

I was one of 4 adventurers on the 7 day expedition tour with guides Peter and Alison. In addition to kayaking in beautiful natural surroundings, we learned a lot about the the Newfoundland culture and history of the area. It was much more than a usual kayak trip. To start off Paul, the owner of Adventures Newfoundland, picked us up in his boat and took us to his cottage on Exploits Island where we met his wife Joanne, the cook extraordinaire. We were treated to a lobster dinner on the dock. The following day we left on our excursion, exploring several islands in Exploits Bay, eating fresh food daily with Newfoundland flare, including mussels which we harvested and Peter boiled up for lunch on the beach one day. We were treated to cod fishing and had cod fillets, cod tongue, cod cheeks and britches for dinner. The trip to the lighthouse was very interesting. I never laughed so hard as at the screeching in ceremony on our last night.

Overall an amazing experience with great hosts, guides and fellow paddlers.

A kayaking expedition to remember !!

Incredible experience! An 8 day expedition I’ll never forget. This was no ordinary kayaking trip because we not only paddled in Newfoundland’s majestic waters, along the ancient rocky coastal shores, we were immersed in its culture and educated in its history. Our guides and hosts were outstanding! We arrived to a huge lobster boil on the wharf which set the scene for the remainder of the week. Peter and Alison told stories of historical events while preparing fisherman’s brewis on the stunning campsites. We’d wake to more traditional foods then pack for another spectacular day on the water. I didn’t want it to end.

If someone ever asks if I’ve ever harvested muscles from my kayak in the crystal clear waters of Newfoundland and boiled them up for lunch, lay in my tent watching the sun paint the sky red as it sets, explore the ancient land formations and bays, end a day belly laughing around a campfire while the tide came in, I will say, yes b’y !

A Must-Do Experience in Newfoundland!

This was one of the best guided trips I’ve ever been on. Peter was an excellent guide—knowledgeable, funny, and clearly passionate about the area. Paul and Joanne were wonderful hosts and made everyone feel welcome from the moment we arrived.

We had the amazing opportunity to kayak past an iceberg, saw an Osprey nest up close, and even spotted some minke whales. The whole experience was well-organised, relaxed, and truly memorable.

I’d love to come back and do one of their multi-day trips. Highly recommend if you’re visiting Newfoundland and looking for a unique outdoor adventure.

A backdoor experience into Newfoundland

I had an absolutely incredible time kayaking for 8 nights this July with Adventures Newfoundland. It was a real backdoor experience into Newfoundland culture and the natural landscape. Paul and Joanne are such warm, welcoming hosts, and Peter and Dean, our guides, were incredibly knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna and geography, about sea kayaking, and about Newfoundland culture. Peter had so many hilarious stories to share with us. Many of the meals were traditional, and so delicious.

Joanne sent us with home baking for nearly every day. The scenery is spectacular, and I really enjoyed the kayaking itself. The water was so clear and every shade of turquoise, teal, and royal blue. I went by myself but met 10 new friends! Everyone who went on the trip was super friendly and fun to be with. 10/10 experience, would absolutely do again.

Newfoundland sea kayaking trip

This was one of the best trips ever and I have done a lot of them over the years.

That part of the world is just drop dead gorgeous and quite desolate which for me is a must. Paul and Joan Langdon are very hospitable, accommodating, warm and full of great stories about that area. Peter our guide is a local “boy” who knows everybody on the island and fantastic story teller, poet and singer. Alison our other guide has vast knowledge about plants of this area since she is forager, organic farmer nad permaculturalist in addition to being great kayaker and poet.

I loved every minute of this adventure.

Off grid exciting times in a peaceful place

One thrill after another courtesy of Paul, Joanne and Mother Nature. Bald eagles soaring overhead, osprey watching us from the nest, Fox Sparrows chirping their loud songs. The humpbacks were plentiful and did not seem to mind us following their languid feeding pace. Did you like some fresh cod? We reeled in our limit on two glorious mornings on calm waters as Paul maneuvered to find the school. The kayaks are top quality and comfortable for a two hour paddle around the neighborhood. Joanne kept our appetites satisfied with an assortment of tasty homemade creations. We felt like part of the family shortly after we arrived.
